Fall Fashion Inspirations for 2015

So, basically, now that it is almost August, I am bored with summer fashion. This happens every single year to me, and it’s just because I love fall and winter clothing (a.k.a. layering and sweaters) so darn much; I see that school is about to start, and I just get all excited for the temperatures to drop and for people to start covering themselves up again, and I’m just unable to wait. And so, because of that, I wanted to take some time out to talk about what my inspirations for dressing will be this upcoming fall. Maybe they’ll end up inspiring you, too.

Let’s get started:

Inspiration 1: Chanel Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2015/2016 Runway Show

I’m not going to lie here; I watched this show for one reason, and one reason only: G Dragon. He was a featured guest in it, and I just couldn’t resist. Old biases die hard, eh?

Well, I was actually pleasantly surprised by this Chanel show. Sure, Lagerfeld still had his fair share of strange, kind of hideous outfits (and that hair, ugh), but I actually found there to be many, many more classic, nice-fitting styles that are making the show really stick with me this time around.

Here are my favorite looks of the show:

Yes, he had some beautiful gowns as well as beautiful tweed skirt suits (as always), and they’re making me think I’m really going to take a liking to full-length-and-dressed-up outfits the rest of this year.

In case you wish to see the whole thing (or only GD, like me), then watch the show here:

Inspiration 2: Dolce and Gabbana Winter 2016

I mean, Chanel is nice and all, but…

D&G is kind of killing it right now. Honestly, I could have included every single look from their site on here, but I didn’t (due mostly to a fear of breaking some horrible copyright they’ve obtained and thus going to jail for practically ever). Take a look at the full collection here. It’s seriously beautiful.

If I had all the money in the world, I would buy myself something from it. But alas I don’t, and so I will not. However, I will keep it in my heart for at least the duration of this next season, using it to inspire me to not totally abandon patterns as the weather starts to turn cold.

Enough of the designer garments I can’t even afford to breathe next to, though. Let’s get to some people.

Inspiration 3: Alexa Chung

Let’s be real here: Chung is always my fashion inspiration. However, I tend to really gravitate toward her in the fall and winter, just because she’s like me and loves to layer.

If only I could have legs as nice as hers, though. Sigh…

Basically, everything this woman puts on ever is English-60s-mod flawless, and it is exactly how I want to dress this upcoming fall. Exactly. Hmmm, maybe I can make a look book…

But, case in point, Alexa Chung will probably be my number one inspo for styling pretty soon.

Inspiration 4: Taylor Swift

I’ve always loved both this girl and her style (even when it was more cute and country than anything). And so its no wonder I’m only starting to love it even more now that she’s completely changed herself up (for the better, I think).

It’s more 60s-mod-type styling, but it’s in a bit of a more subdued way, which I think I could pull off better. (Sorry, but I’m just not as daring as Alexa and her happy-rainbow-sunshine-patterned shirt with houndstooth pants, even if I really wish I was.)

(That cat purse, though.

As much as I’m a dog person, it’s really inspiring me to prematurely wear the cat dress that my sister just gave me.)

Also, I literally just bought a skort that looks exactly like the one Taylor is wearing in this picture, so I think it’s kind of destiny that she’s ended up on this list.

As for what she will be inspiring me to do, well, it’s pretty much the same as Alexa: pull off vintage looks in a sort of minimalist, modern way. As well as let the haters hate.

Inspiration 5: Jane Aldridge

She’s a blogger, and she’s basically all of my life goals combined into one.

She’s the epitome of the quirky, vintage fall look I’m really feeling this year. And also, THAT HAIR.

Why can’t my hair be that nice and vibrant? 😦

Well, enough gushing. Check her blog (Sea of Shoes) out here if you love her looks as much as I.

And now, I think she and her bright locks are a great segue away from people into…

Inspiration 6: Colored Hair

No, this does not mean I will be dying my hair. As much as I would love to, just the thought of it scares the crap out of me. However, dyed hair is inspiring me in other ways.

Because I now see so many people walking around in black and gray clothes…yet looking totally awesome rather than dowdy because their hair is the color of hot lava, well, it’s serving to remind me to not abandon color entirely when it gets cold. So even when I’m about to step out of the house in a mod, gray look, I’ll [hopefully] remember to throw in a pop of color somewhere to liven me up. Cause normally I don’t do that, and I’m starting to think that maybe I should…

(PS – Here’s two bonus pics for your viewing enjoyment, simply because Google recommended them to me.

Muahaha. You’re welcome.)

Oh, hey! Look! It’s another fantastic segue! From Korean stars with dyed hair we now move to…

Inspiration 7: Korean Street Fashion

It’s not as weird as what you’re expecting, people.

Yes, it’s actually very similar to what you’d find in NYC or London these days, just with a little bit of a Korean flair added here and there.

See what I mean:

Super girly…

Extreme platforms…

Funky tights…

See? It’s totally normal. And for once, I’m not even being sarcastic.

Pattern mixing with a sporty twist…

A more casual dress and shoes paired with less casual everything else…

Layering, except with a sheer blouse…

And this one’s totally normal!

So there’s actually some pretty awesome stuff going on in South Korea right now fashion-wise, guys, and it will serve as my inspiration behind the little twists I put in my outfits this next season. Like sporty yet girly.

(And here’s another bonus:

That is stereotypical Korean, and I love it. It’s hilarious in the best way possible, and I love it. Plus, shouts to the dude for shopping at H&M.

But, yeah, that’s not what most Korean street style is about, thank goodness.

Bonus over.)

But street style is another great segue into…

Inspiration 8: Candid Photography

Not even candid fashion photography, but just plain and simple candid images.

Whether black-and-white or in full color, candid images that capture the simple, beautiful essence of everyday life are just really influencing me right now, and when this fall rolls around, I think that influence will end up serving to help me keep things simple; no, I don’t need to change fifty times just to find the perfect look for my feeling that day, and, no, said look doesn’t need twenty layers as well as jewelry and heels and fixed hair and perfect makeup. No, simple is good, as candids have been showing me, and my goal this fall will be to keep things that way: simple.

Let’s get away from people altogether now, though, and talk about the things in life that will inspire me in the fall.

Inspiration 9: Autumn Nature

Without fail, every fall, I start wearing oranges and deep greens and reds and browns. And every winter, I start wearing navies and grays and icy blues and whites. Why? Well, I’m starting to think that it’s because of the way the nature around me changes when the later months kick into gear. Leaves turn from green to dark green to orange to brown, and then slowly fall, so the ground is suddenly all of those colors and the skies not. And in another month, everything is bleak and gray. And so, for some reason, my wardrobe follows.

Here’s a few beautiful images of autumn that I’ve seen recently (thanks, Pinterest) that have kick-started my want of fall to arrive:

Okay, I know the reason why fall nature inspires me every year: It’s so darn beautiful, that it, in a semi-basic-white-girl fashion, just can’t not.

Back to people, though. Kind of.

Inspiration 10: Fiction

It’s no secret that I live in a dream world and love fiction; sure, while my journalistic dream is to work at some Vogue somewhere in the world, my overall dream is to write books and films (and get them successfully published). So obviously the fiction I’ve taken in throughout my life will always inspire the way I am, including how I dress. Of late, a few specific bits of said fiction have really been popping into my head while I’ve been getting ready.

First up, we have Downton Abbey‘s Mary.

It’s gorgeous, classy, vintage fall, and even though 20s instead of 60s, I still really want to wear it.

The next inspiration is from two literary works I have always (and will always) love. More specifically, their illustrations and general tone of voice throughout are what really get to me. Say hello to Grimm’s Fairytales and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

Grimm

Holmes

“Violence does, in truth, recoil upon the violent, and the schemer falls into the pit which he digs for another.”

I don’t know why, they just resonate with me. And lately, said resonating is only getting stronger. I expect it to continue and thus influence my clothes.

Inspiration 11: Kate Spade

More specifically the label’s latest coffee table book, Places to Go, People to See

I have it, and the more and more I look at it, I just can’t help but want to embody everything featured within. And that love isn’t stopping any time soon, so it’s safe to say that I’ll definitely be using this to get dressed quite a few mornings.

Well, that’s all! Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed!

Until next time! ❤
