Bangtan Style: Dressing as “Dope” as BTS in “Jjeoreo” (V Edition)

A.K.A. Office attire with a twist.

Note: No bowl cuts, center parts, hair dye, or mad dance moves required.

[Editor’s Note: So, I already did this post last week, but due to its length, I’ve decided to pull it, chop it into tiny pieces, and then re-release it in segments, focusing on one group member per post. And since I think I’m going to release one a day (and there are seven members in total), consider this to officially be Bangtan Week on I Really Hate Converse! Yippee!

I mean, not that it isn’t always Bangtan Week on here, anyway, but you get what I mean.

So sorry if you’ve already seen this. Now, however, you’ll be able to more easily manage the content. Yippee, again!]

Well, this series is finally winding to a close. Just two more posts are left after this one, and I am both sad and glad about it. Yes, this takes away from the other content I was planning on putting out, but I really loved composing all of this. So it’s bittersweet right now.

However, with all nostalgia aside, we move on to our next look: V. And this one is by far my favorite. I think you’re really going to like it.

Look Book: K.T. Phone Home

Disclaimer: No, the outfit I’ve created below is not identical to the one V wears in the music video; rather, it’s a simple, feminine recreation. Don’t be sad, though, or disappointed, for even though just a recreation, it’s a good recreation (if I do say so myself!), and so it should still make you feel pretty sexy and bad@$$. Why? Because even though Bangtan may not be the best style inspiration out there 100% of the time, they still do have many moments when their stylists completely nail it, making the boys all look pretty darn fine. And “Dope,” even though kind of just an occupation-themed Halloween party (rightfully so), was certainly no exception. Certainly not. So I promise that with this look, you’ll definitely be just as fly as V — simply in a more feminine way 🙂

A’ight, let’s do this:

First, though, let’s celebrate, for our favorite alien has finally gotten the chance to contact his people.

Good for him. Good for him.

(Lame jokes end here. I promise.)

You know, even though I absolutely HATE the above-the-knee shorts for boys trend that is happening right now (what, is it 1930, and are you all 12?), for some reason, V’s outfit is still my favorite in the video (which explains why I love my recreation so much). Sure, all the other guys look handsome and all, but this one is just nerdtasticly stylish. It’s basically Doctor Who? meets BTS. Seriously, how can you not love that??

Okay, enough gushing about the perfection of whatever stylist picked this costume. Here’s my version:

Dress shorts and a blazer are all you need to recreate this look. You can go for a matching set if you like, like what is used in the music video, but I opted to instead choose pieces that were not similar at all. I mean, as much as I love monochrome, one series can only handle so much!

Even though breaking up the color scheme, I still wanted to go for a grey blazer so that the same vibe was given off in this outfit as in the video. However, with the sleeves un-cuffed, the look felt a little too 1980’s (probably due to the fact that my blazer actually has shoulder pads…). So, to fix that, I simply rolled each sleeve up once in order to give it a more sleek, tailored, modern feel. I think the change in fabric that happens on the inside of the jacket at the wrists really helps with that.

And to keep this look from being too tomboyish, I chose high-waisted bottoms once again. I did so because my blazer is cropped; I wanted the clothes to end up accentuating my waist rather than end up turning it into one big box, which cropped with high-waisted usually does nicely.

High-waisted dress shorts would still give this effect, however, even if the blazer you are using isn’t cropped; just test to see before stepping out the door which way your blazer looks better with the shorts: buttoned or unbuttoned. Depending on the cut of the blazer and thus how it hugs your body, one will end up making you look larger than you actually are. So check yourself before you wreck yourself by trying both out first. You can thank me later.

As you probably noticed, I’m not wearing a bow tie on my neck thanks to the fact that I don’t own one. I do, however, own hair bows, and so I took one and clipped it to my belt instead of my head. Which means, voila! The bow tie of the original outfit lives on!

All in all, it’s an incredibly cute and rock-able recreation, perfect for the office. Now let’s all say it together:

Seriously, though, they killed it with V’s look. Claps for them.

Okay, so back to the whole bow tie thing: Even though it’s on my pants for this look, I still didn’t forget about the neck. Instead of menswear, I opted for a statement necklace (just like with every other look, haha). Choosing one that is bright and red brings just as much fun to the look as Tae’s bow tie did. Feel free to rock a bow tie, though, if you actually have one on hand.

(And, yes, I’m totally bringing the bubble necklace back, thanks for noticing.)

^That last picture was my tribute to all the normal, non-pigeon-toed people out there. You know, posing like this really made me realize how nice it must be to not kick yourself every two steps you take.

Just saying, you don’t know how good you have it until God takes your feet and points ’em in.

Anyway, I once again have my black oxfords on, but I’m totally okay with that here because of the socks. Now, I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I absolutely love, love, love socks and shoes together. I don’t know why, but I just think it’s the quirkiest, cutest thing ever. So when I saw that V was rocking socks with his black loafers, I just knew I couldn’t deviate in the footwear department with this look. It would’ve killed me!

Unfortunately, though, I don’t own any calf-length, white socks, so I had to settle on black…my only black pair…that has “I love Mickey Mouse” and “I love Minnie Mouse” written across the top of each one…

It’s a good thing I know how to cuff.

Well, if you have white socks that are the right length and are wearing a white shirt under your blazer, then please use your white socks with your black shoes. It looks super cool! (Just take a look at Taehyung!) But if you either don’t have white socks or are not wearing a white shirt under your blazer, then stick to black (or at least the same color as your shoes/shirt); with the socks, you want to try to make the more subdued accents of your outfit pop, which is why the original stylists chose white — and why you should stick to similar colors, too; it ties everything together.

Now, with that out of the way, please feel free to also rock the look sans blazer:

You can see more clearly here that I chose a plain t-shirt instead of another button-down (V wears a button-down in the MV). Honestly, though, if you want to go for a button-down, then do it! This was just the last outfit I photographed that day, and by that point, I was not having anymore button-downs! Enough was enough! I do recommend sticking to white, though, under your blazer, especially if you’re going for color mixing like I did; white is just a good base for this kind of outfit — as well as a good way to embody the BTS version.

What can I say? I was feeling extra model-y without the jacket.
