Oh, no… Here we go again…
I know, I know. For the two people out there who will still read this even despite my several-year absence, you’ve rolled your eyes so far in the back of your head, your retina detached. But go visit your ophthalmologist asap, because you’re gonna need those eyes to see the new content that I’ll finally be posting.
Yup. That’s right. I’m legitimately back, and while I know I’ve said that 100,000 times over the last few years before promptly failing to return, now, I fully mean it, as I actually conjured up a plan that accounts for the very little time I have in order to blog. And since that means I’ll no longer be biting off more than I can chew, I should finally be able keep up.
I’ve missed blogging desperately since I paused in 2021 to start my writing endeavors, and while I still remain unpublished, I no longer see the need to pick and choose between that dream and all my others. So, I’m going to try to do it all, little by little, and I can’t wait to start rebuilding a style community on here ❤️
Now, since quite some time has passed since my last post, I figured I should reintroduce myself:
My name is Leah, and I’m a 28-year-old wannabe writer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, who has the pleasure of spending most of her days working a regular nine-to-five as a data analyst for some random company 😊 (I hope you sense the sarcasm in “pleasure.”) I started this blog in 2014 when I was just 18 and a freshman in college, and boy, how I never imagined a decade would pass!
Oh, yes. You heard that right. I Really Hate Converse is over 10 years old, and my, how nothing has changed regarding post consistency! I laugh at how my college self thought graduation would mean extra free time and the infinite ability to create… Adulthood is quite the opposite, but even so, I’m thrilled to be in this stage of my life.
And while my terrible ability to keep up with this platform hasn’t changed, my physical style has. Quite a bit. Especially over the last few years. And I’m excited to share this current version of myself with the world. (Although, I must confess: I constantly grapple with whether to delete all my old posts and start this blog anew. However, despite the strong urge, I always end up choosing to leave them, not wanting to erase the record of my journey from teenager to young adult to adult. It’s kind of incredible that the evolution of my style and interests is documented, so, as embarrassing as it is to have all my awkward style experiments and incredibly immature writing on here, it’s also a testament to how far I’ve come, which means I’ll probably always keep those old posts up for everyone to giggle at. After all, what’s the point in living if you can’t have a few laughs?)
Back when I started this blog, I wanted to teach others how to dress the way they want without breaking the bank or overconsuming, and that goal of mine remains unchanged, except now, I focus much more on preventing overconsumption. That doesn’t mean I suddenly shop expensive, or anything. My wardrobe has practically no costly, high-end, or designer garments, but despite shopping affordably, I still ensure that every piece I purchase is both high quality and versatile (and sustainably/humanely made). That way, each garment I own will not only last as long as possible but will also enable me to dress in any way I want every single day—while minimally contributing to the countless environmental and societal issues that exist.
And just as teaching others how to take the common, staple pieces in their closets and style them in unique, personality-specific looks was my hope ten years ago, that’s still my aspiration now. Especially since a lot of the current style icons/influencers…seem to just be people wealthy enough to afford the latest trends. Not trying to be mean, but…it’s relatively easy to constantly buy trendy pieces in order to keep up with current fashion. However, it takes real talent to style any old garment into a look that’s actually appealing, and while I’m not trying to toot my own horn…that skill is what I hope to spread on here—how to take everything “tired” in your closet and wear it in a way that makes you love it again, thus helping decrease overconsumption and shopping waste.
So, welcome back to I Really Hate Converse. At some point in the future (maybe next month), I’ll write another post that has some more personal information about me, as well as a re-explanation of the origin of this blog’s name, since I know some of you are wondering, but until then, stay well, stay happy, and remember: They need us overconsuming to keep us broke 😊

Until next time ❤
